Product Care & Help Guide

Sofas Care & Maintenance Guide

At Gaafour Furniture, our sofas are designed for everyday household use. Regular care can help maintain their appearance, comfort and structural condition over time.

Please Note: Always follow any product-specific care label or instructions supplied with your sofa. Where product-specific instructions differ from this general guide, the product-specific instructions should take priority.

1. Unboxing & Initial Placement

  • Cushion Dressing: When unpacking a new sofa, plump seat cushions and back cushions firmly by hand to encourage inner fibre and foam clusters to expand evenly after transit.
  • Floor Protection: If your sofa is supplied with felt or protective floor glides, check periodically that they remain securely fitted beneath each sofa leg to protect flooring.
  • Sunlight & Heat Sources: Avoid placing sofas directly against domestic radiators or heating units. Prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight may cause upholstery fabrics and leathers to fade or dry over time.

2. Upholstery Cleaning & Maintenance

Fabric & Velvet Sofas

Vacuum upholstery weekly on low suction using a soft upholstery brush attachment to remove household dust, pet hair, and grit from fabric weaves and seam piping.

For accidental spills:

  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry, absorbent white towel or kitchen paper;
  • Never rub or scrub vigorously, as this can damage fabric pile and drive stains deeper into the cushion core;
  • Do not saturate the fabric with excessive water; and
  • Always test any upholstery cleaner on a hidden patch before wider application.

Faux Leather / Smooth Finishes

Wipe down surfaces using a soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth. For mild soiling, use a diluted neutral soap solution and buff dry promptly. Avoid abrasive scouring pads, bleach, acetone, or harsh chemical degreasers.

3. Cushion Care & Rotation

  • Periodic Rotation: Where cushions are reversible and detachable, rotate and turn them every few weeks to encourage uniform wear and maintain symmetrical foam contouring.
  • Plumping: Regular plumping redistributes inner fillings, preventing body impressions from becoming permanent.

4. Frame & Fastener Inspection

Periodic Fastener Check

Normal everyday use can occasionally loosen screw-in sofa feet or modular bracket fixings. We recommend inspecting accessible feet and connections approximately every 3 to 6 months, tightening gently by hand where necessary. Do not overtighten.

5. Safe Domestic Use

  • Use sofas only for their intended domestic seating purpose.
  • Do not stand on sofa cushions, jump on the seating deck, or sit on the outer armrests, as this puts excessive pressure on joint fixings.
  • If a sofa leg or modular joint becomes loose, damaged or unstable, stop using the section until it has been inspected and corrected.
